I can't believe its over……but I can't believe the anticipation didn't kill me! The countdown got down to hours and I spent that time pinching myself and the people around me. Never did I think I would get the opportunity to see these guys just rocking out old tunes like they did. LWOS was great but this was sensational…. 5 guys that turned up not to promote an album but just get in and rock their hearts out! The ringside set up meant that everyone had a great seat but on three of the four nights the place I was more than happy to be was right against the barricade as close as possible. The first tune 'Home and Broken Hearted', on the first night, took my breath away I think I was stunned for a moment, then snapped out of it and just was enjoying (and that is a huge understatement) what was in front of us. 'Plaza' gave me tears - holy cow - HOW GOOD IS MOSSY!!!! Not to mention his new 'mossy moves' who knew he was so light on his feet. 'Choir girl' was a goosebump number and then 'Khe Sanh'….. Me and 5000 of my closest mates (well for that moment anyhow) being lead by the best band on earth, stood tall and sung our hearts out to a tune that I'm sure is (or should be) our national anthem! Back into the second set and Steve wowed us with 'All I wanna do' - I'm a fan of that one…… cant seem to get it out of my head now. Don singing 'Bal-a-Versailles' was great, and Phil - WOW - he is, I'm sure, the coolest, most calm and collective man on the planet. Jimmy ahhhh Jimmy, yes he is my personal fave, but he was backed by the best - which just meant his performance was far and beyond what I have seen in ages. He sung, he screamed, he sweat it out, he had the crowd in a frenzy (I'm sure I saw a g-string fly up on the stage at one point - insane huh! HA!), he even played percussion (well a little shaking thingy but sheesh he did it well). But the best bit was the fun they were having, all these guys were having a deadset ball and that shone through in their performance. The week was one of those weeks I know I will still be talking about when the kids send me to the old people's home. The mates I got to catch up with and the new mates I made just ensured it was the best week ever. Starting in a room at the Trinity Bar, with people from down the road, to people from the other side of the world, having lots of laughs and drinkies. Then finishing the week after four brilliant Cold Chisel Ringside shows with a bunch of mates at 4am signing in the pub at the top of our lungs to more Chisel. God Bless the DJ at The Orient!!!!!! It was all I wanted and more….. Bring on the DVD, but heres hoping for more live concerts. These guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!……..and I was there!
