"Ringside"
DVD
We can assure you that it is finally completed...about time I hear
you all yell in unison!
The problem in a nutshell was that the band were not happy with
the audio mix and a remix was decided on. Rick Will and the band
went back into 301 Studios in Sydney and worked on the 5:1 surround
sound until they were happy that it reflected authentically the
Ringside concert experience. As well as the concert performance
from Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion in June 2003, the DVD contains
added bonus tracks, behind the scenes footage of the band plus,
a special feature from every venue on the Nov - Jan national concert
tour.
The DVD is now in production and we hope to be able to give you
the release details soon.
Rod wants to thank all those that have got in touch with him with
old photos, newspaper clippings, etc. The response so far has been
fantastic. Keep them coming!
MORE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING?
It looks like work is almost complete on the
Ringside DVD. Apparently there were a few small things that the
band needed to sort out before they were completely happy for the
DVD release to go ahead. Last week band members were observed going
in and out of Studio 301 and Fox Studios in Sydney. We hope soon
to be able to give you a concrete release date. We have seen the
vision and heard the final mixes and believe me they will be worth
the wait. They sound awesome!!
If anyone has any very old personal snaps of the band playing live,
old newspaper articles, old live reviews, gig flyers, newspaper
adverts for live shows, the management would be very grateful for
copies. Anyone that can help can contact Rod Willis via Chisel info.
Rumour is that Mossy snuck in a birthday late last month.
Jimmy has been Living Loud and rumour has it that Don has been seen
as of late in
Byron Bay. Isn't that were Tex lives?
RIGHT THEN..
Photos? Well, Deb took a fair few while the band were out
and about and here are a few of them ..........Bowling
awards ...... Adelaide .......
Crew + ...
WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Happy birthday Steve! Well last Friday
was the date. 50? no way !!
A enthusiastic contingent converged on the Bridge Hotel in Rozelle
Sydney last Thursday night to watch Steve and his band in action
and to celebrate his birthday.
Don, Phil and Ian were there to join in the celebrations.
The new "Barking Spider" and "Forever
Now" fanzines are now out and are a great read. Both
contain brilliant reviews, stories and interviews. These are a must
for the complete Chisel reader. Great work from Jerome and David
who are always so close to the action.
Jimmy has just arrived
back from a quick trip to Thailand, Paris and Scotland.
Check out his site for all his upcoming solo dates.
Don did a one off gig with Tex Perkins
and Charlie Owen at the Hopetoun Hotel in Sydney on Sunday the 22nd
February. Packed to the gills was the report.
Is a Tex, Don and Charlie album on the cards????
Ian and Phil are also out doing
some dates, again check the Ian Moss website for the dates.
If you want to catch Steve live in Sydney try the Bridge Hotel in
Rozelle each Thursday night, never know who you may see there.
Paul Henry from Sydney Uni has posted a message in the chat
room. He's looking to interview some real Chisel fans for a short
film he is making about music fans. If you are interested get in
contact with him at < P.Henry@econ.usyd.edu.au>
Someone has raised the suggestion of a release of a "Teenage
Love" #2 which would include studio versions of "All I
Wanna Do" and "Love Light". Great idea, but studio
versions of those songs don't exist. Maybe contenders for the next
studio album??
Out of all the questions that we get asked the number one is ...............
when is the "Ringside" DVD coming out. The answer is,
when it is ready. At this moment it is in the authoring stage. It
will come out, we promise, and it will be worth it, so be patient
please!
Other questions that we have received are :
What about New Zealand?
Looking into setting up some dates!
What about the Last Stand on DVD?
Firstly Rick Will has to remix the sound for DVD. He is currently
in New York mixing a couple of projects.
Touring UK/USA/Europe?:
Management is currently looking into this at this moment!
More touring in OZ?:
Darwin/Nth Queensland are still on the cards!
A new chat room is being designed and
hopefully will be up within the next month. The threat to ban certain
people from the forum has certainly kicked up a bit of dust. If
you have something constructive to say your opinion will always
be welcomed on this site. Rest assured the band and management do
read your comments. What is unpleasant and unconstructive is that
certain people have decided to hide behind their anonymity and use
the forum as a platform to abuse the band and it's fans alike. This
is not wanted by the band or for that matter the majority of the
people who log on each week to meet and talk to other people who
are interested in Cold Chisel. It is interesting that all of these
offenders seem to hide behind their anonymity, with no e-mail address
or profile. The important point here is that the chat room was created
as a place where real Cold Chisel fans can meet and talk.
Remember if you have a genuine question or
complaint send it to Chisel info, which can be reached via the news
page where it says "E-mail us", believe me it gets
to the powers that be!
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
OK!
everyone has been asking what is happening with the web site...lack
of updates.... chat room not working etc. Our apologies, but the
simple excuse is that we all have been flat out with the tour and
getting the Ringside DVD ready for release. The tour is now over,
and the DVD is in the final authoring stage so we will be able to
attend to getting the web site up to speed. We have heaps of stuff
from the tour to put up including some great photos sent in by some
of you. As a number of you would have noticed we had some problems
with the chat room which should be rectified today. We are planning
to make some changes to the chat room to make it easier to use and
to allow us to get rid of those who are only using it as a forum
to abuse the band and the genuine fans. Those guilty have been noted
and will be banned. The main question we seem to get lately is when
is the DVD coming out. Final editing was only completed two weeks
ago and it is currently being authored, and the artwork is being
done. The rough date we have is April?

A third show at Melbourne's Festival Hall will go on sale next Monday
8th December. Tickets are through Ticketmaster7. Get in early for
those primo seats!
RINGSIDE TOUR KICKS OFF
The first date of the national 'Ringside ' tour kicked off in Tamworth
last Saturday night before an enthusiastic crowd. As in Sydney and
Newcastle earlier in the year the band played for over 3 hours on
stage. When the band broke for intermission a pleasant surprise
awaited Don backstage. Saturday was his birthday and unbeknown to
Don his family had driven up to Tamworth to join with the band in
celebrating the occasion. As Don entered a darkened backstage area
he was greeted by all assembled with a beautiful cake featuring
a cat lying on a keyboard and a boisterous version of "happy
birthday". After the cake was devoured the band was ushered
back on stage to complete the second set. After the show everyone
retired to the Country Comfort motel and partied into the small
hours.
Also joining the band in Tamworth was Australian champion golfer
Peter Lonard who was taking some time out from the hectic PGA tour.
Peter, Jimmy, Jane and sound man Paul even managed a couple of games
at the local "Royal Tamworth" golf coarse, I think Peter
won.
The show now heads to Brisbane's Convention Centre this Friday 5th
December then onto Perth and eventually Adelaide before breaking
for the xmas period.
SMS CARDS
When attending the shows you will find a card on your seat with
details of how two lucky people can get the opportunity each night
to meet the band after the show. Simply you will need to send a
text message to the number on the card and the lucky winner will
be notified during the intermission. You have to be in it to win
it!
'All I Wanna Do'
The song is getting played on a heap of stations across the country
including 96FM and 94.5FM in Perth and NOVA in Sydney. Keep ringing
the stations requesting the song!!
NATIONAL TV SPECIAL
Stay tuned for a special announcement regarding a national network
television special before xmas. We hope to be able to tell you details
in the next few days.
DRUMSTICKS
For those that want something to play along to the album with, you
should purchase a copy of the Steve Prestwich model drumsticks that
are being sold at the merchandising stand at all the shows. Along
with the stubby holders they were a big selling item in Tamworth
on Saturday night. Please refrain from tapping on the head of the
person in front of you during the show!
CAMERAS
Happy snaps are fine, please no cam recorders!
'RINGSIDE' DOUBLE 'LIVE' ALBUM RELEASE
The NEW double live album 'RINGSIDE' was released on Monday 17th
November.
Recorded live over four nights at Sydney's
Hordern Pavilion in June this year, 'RINGSIDE', was recorded by
Steve James and mixed by Rick Will (Incubus, No Doubt, Ben Harper).
The stunning cover artwork was specially illustrated by long time
friend, and Australia's most prominent 'pop artist', Martin Sharp
(Cream - 'Disraeli Gears'). For Martin and the band this was
a return to an association, which began in 1982 when they first
collaborated on the poster artwork for the Circus tent shows in
Wentworth Park in Sydney.
The 'RINGSIDE' album features thirty-two tracks including five previously
unreleased songs, and twelve tracks that have not appeared on any
COLD CHISEL live album before. Songs such as 'Home And Broken Hearted'
and 'Rosaline' from the band's debut album in 1978, and 'F-111',
from the 1994 rare track compilation 'Teenage Love' are captured
live for the very first time.
The 'RINGSIDE' album is unique in as much as it highlights, for
the very first time on record, lead vocals from members other than
Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss.
Don Walker (keyboards) and Steve Prestwich (drums) take the lead
vocal role on three songs.
'Lovelight' and All I Wanna Do', are two new original songs penned
bySteve Prestwich. The band also perform a version of Dragon's 'Sunshine',
the late
Johnny Cash's 'Big River', and Julie London's torch classic, 'Cry
Me A River'.
'RINGSIDE' NATIONAL AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Commencing in late November in Tamworth and extending through December
and January of next year, venues around Australia will be transformed
to equip a state of the art sound and lighting set up as the band
deliver the 'RINGSIDE' experience as heard on the new album. The
intimate concert event sees COLD CHISEL's three-hour performance
encapsulate the band's career plus favourites, new songs, songs
that have rarely been performed, solo songs and songs by other people
that have been important to the band.

Ringside Album - 17th November Release
The new double album, which will retail at the same price as a single
album, will hit the streets officially on Monday 17th November.
This will mean that it should be in the record shops on the weekend
15th/16th. The album recorded over four nights at the Hordern in
June of this year will feature 32 tracks which were mixed
by Rick Will. Included are, six new tracks including two versions
of "All I Wanna Do", one with Jimmy singing, the other
featuring Steve. The album also features twelve previously unreleased
live versions of songs such as "Home and Broken Hearted",
"Houndog", "Plaza", and a great version
of "When the War is Over". Also included is their cover
of the Dragon classic "Sunshine".
The cover artwork is by the great pop artist Martin Sharp who created
album covers for the Cream (Disrali Gears and Wheels on Fire) and
help create the famous underground magazines of the 60's, IT and
OZ.

Many people have asked about whether they can take photos at the

Ringside
The band would especially like to thank all those that attended
the Ringside shows in Sydney and Newcastle. People had traveled
from as far as the UK, Singapore, Denmark, USA and New Zealand to
be there. As well, many also traveled interstate from Perth, Brisbane,
Adelaide, Darwin, Tassie and other places. Those fortunate to attend
saw some awesome shows.
Originally the shows were only going to be in Sydney but the band
decided to rehearse the "in the round" show in Newcastle,
so a couple of dates were put on sale there while they were in the
town. The band also made a quick trip to Orange in the New South
Wales country for the first time since they played the Amoco Hall
there in September 1982.
The shows in Sydney were filmed and recorded for a CD and DVD release
later in the year. The main filming took place on Tuesday and Wednesday
(3rd + 4th), but additional filming took place on the other two
nights. All the shows in Sydney were recorded by Steve James. Backstage
was a real hive of activity with one room set up as a recording
suite and another room with a bank of screens recording the vision.
A couple of new songs featuring Steve were played, being "Lovelight"
and "All I Wanna Do". Jimmy also took the lead on "All
I Wanna Do" on Tuesday night.
Those that attended the Newcastle and Sydney shows may have noticed
the Ringside photographer Roger, snapping away. Were you photographed?
For the answer go to the
ringside page and check it out. Each week we will be
putting up a few more plus some backstage stuff, so keep checking
in.
Those seen backstage on different nights included Billy Birmingham,
Steve Waugh, Shane Lee, Gavin Robertson and Matthew Johns.
We will also be putting up the set list for each night of the shows.
If you were there how about a review! The best ones we will put
up.
Ringside Merchandise
Now we have received heaps of enquiries from people wanting to purchase
Ringside Merchandising. Unfortunately there is only a very small
range left over, mainly in XXL and Medium sizes. Anyway go to the
Chisel SHOP and check it out.
Competition
Sorry about the results of the competition but we have been trying
to track Mossy down to draw the winners. This week we promise! Unfortunately
he has been a little tied up doing a few things, as you can imagine.
You were
at Ringside?
Check
the ringside page for your lucky picture.
We'll
be adding new shots every week.

Song Requests Welcome for RINGSIDE
We have spoken to the band's management about whether the Chisel
fans can submit their song requests for the "Ringside" shows. "No
problem" was the answer, "we would love to see what the real fans
want to hear!" So let's see your set lists. Send them to us via
Chisel Info and we will pass them onto the band. Remember they will
be onstage for 2 1/2 hours so you have a lot of scope there. Incidentally,
the band starts their full rehearsals from the 12th May so you need
to get them in soon.
Brand New FAQ and answers April 2003
Keep asking, we will try and answer them!!! The front desk has them
all - Jason Telfer writes about getting on the mailing list - its
easy. Chevez asks what was the US single that was delivered to radio
wrapped in a diaper. Andrew has a mint copy of "You're Thirteen"
and asks what it is worth. For full list and answers GO
TO THE FRONT DESK! (remember to reload or refresh
page when you get there)
RINGSIDE at the Hordern
Hopefully you all have got your tickets by now. If you know anyone
who hasn't , please tell them that there are a few, and I do mean
a few, left for the 4th show on Saturday night 7th June. Going fast
though!!!
First off we must say that the response to the "Ringside" shows
has been nothing short of amazing. Three shows sold out on the first
day. The response for the advance ticket offer through the web site
was overwhelming. We must apologize to those that encountered problems
in getting through to the link. This was mainly a problem of overload.
From what we can gather everyone eventually did get through, albeit
that it sometimes took a number of attempts. We have received loads
of emails thanking the band for making this advance offer possible.
Emails of thanks came from all over Australia as well as from overseas
places such as the US, UK, NZ and Germany.
Many people have been asking about "Ringside" . The 32ft x 32ft
stage is 4ft high and is positioned in the centre of the hall with
the audience 360 degrees surrounding them. The sound system and
lights will be hung above the stage in the round. The stage will
feature a revolving centre which will solve any sight line problems.
The closest seat is 3ft from the stage, and the furthest, less than
25 metres. The show will be in two halves with an intermission in
the middle. Every ticket holder will have a seat. The four nights
will be recorded and filmed.
We know that there are many like Christine from Perth who are designing
up special shirts, jackets etc to wear at the shows. It's being
filmed so wear your colours!!!! This going to be some party!!!!!
Special merchandising will be available for sale at the shows. This
will feature the "Ringside" poster artwork that has been designed
by this country's most prominent Pop artist, Martin Sharp. Now this
is not the first time that Martin has designed a poster for Cold
Chisel. In April of 1982 Martin designed the poster for "An Evening
With The Circus Animals" which was staged over two nights in a circus
tent in Sydney's Wentworth Park. The shows featured the band and
circus acts performing under the big top. In the 60's Martin was
the art director and cartoonist at "Oz' magazine in London.Martin
wrote the lyrics to the song "Tales of Brave Ulysses" for Eric Clapton.
The song was on the Cream's album "Disraeli Gears". Martin also
designed the cover for the following Cream album ''Wheels of Fire'.
As expected we have had numerous emails at Chisel Info inquiring
on whether the band has any plans to play any other shows around
Australia or overseas.
"Ringside" was always planned by the band as a one off event , to
be staged in Sydney's Hordern Pavilion and to be filmed and recorded
for later release on CD and DVD. At this stage there are no plans

"The Last Stand" DVD
Robert Hambling has started work on the actual editing of the "Last
Stand" DVD which is planned for release mid this year. The DVD will
feature never before seen footage, including interviews, backstage
footage and songs that were not featured in the original movie or
video release. Robert and Rod spent two weeks in Film Australia
in Sydney going through tons of canisters of old film, and reportably
uncovered some real gems. One of these gems was all the street interviews
with fans outside the Sydney Entertainment Centre on the final night.
There is going to be some very surprised people when that is viewed.
"Where are they now?"
The soundtrack will be mixed in 5.1. The vibe is that the band is
really excited about the release of this DVD.
